FIRST TIMERS

It’s my first time at Phoenix Comicon. What Should I Expect?

Phoenix Comicon is a convention & expo that celebrates Fandom and pop culture. This year’s features include pop culture actors, top comic book writers & artists, programming, exhibitors, costuming, and more. Prepare to Celebrate your Fandom!

Dress the Part

While many of our Phoenix Comicon attendees dress in costume, it is not necessary to enjoy the event. We encourage you to discover your own Fandom or just grab last year’s Halloween costume from the back of your closet. Enjoy the fun and express yourself. Kids can dress up too!

You should expect to see lots of popular characters from movies, TV shows, and comic books. Because of the nature of our event, you should be aware that some costumes are risqué and some can be scary, especially for younger children. Most of our attendees have been doing this for a long time, and they know when they can “ham it up” and when to tone it down. However, we encourage costuming and cosplay and attendees should be prepared.

See our complete costuming policy here.

I Can Meet WHO!?!

Phoenix Comicon brings your favorite movie and TV stars, comic book authors and artists, pop culture icons, and fandom celebrities right to you. Guest panels give you an opportunity to hear our guests talk about past, current, and upcoming projects, interact with their co-stars, and answer questions from the audience. Our guests also schedule time either before or after panels for photo ops and autographs for an additional fee. Photos and autographs are usually sold on a limited basis to accommodate the actor’s schedule, so be sure to buy yours early. Many of our guests stay through the weekend, but some are only here for one day, so make sure you plan your schedule around their appearances.

Stan Lee- Marvel Comics, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy & George Takei- Star Trek, Stephen Amell- The Green Arrow, Nathan Fillion- Firefly, Sean Astin- Lord of the Rings, Christopher Lloyd- Back to the Future, Wil Wheaton- Stand by Me, Star Trek, Big Bang Theory, Danny Glover- Lethal Weapon, Lou Ferrigno- The Incredible Hulk, And more!

What to Do! What to Do!

There are so many activities and panels at Phoenix Comicon that we couldn’t possibly list them all. In fact, you’ll probably find that you can’t see everything you want to see in one day. That’s why we offer full event passes so you can stay all weekend. Onsite you will find our printed programming guide which offers a complete schedule of events.

Activities include competitions and trivia games, kids’ activities, celebrity guest appearances, costume contests, a masquerade ball, and discussion panels where you can learn from and interact with local and national experts and enthusiasts on a whole host of topics. Our programs for this year will be announced soon.

Fun for the Whole Family

Phoenix Comicon is a family-friendly event. We offer many activities for kids of all ages. Some of this year’s activities are:

Lego interactive building area

Family Game Room

Parkour Lessons

All of our youth and family activities will be listed in our programming guide soon.

We are committed to the safety and enjoyment of all of our guests, attendees, volunteers, and staff. Child and youth passes include a fillable form for the parent or guardian’s name and cell phone number. Please fill out this form and fold your personal information inside the badge to keep it secure. In the event a child is separated from his parents or guardians, Phoenix Comicon staff, security, and the Phoenix Police Department are on-site to assist you. Check in at the Info Desk or Registration to report missing children.

Read, Shop, Sign, Shop, Eat, Shop…Repeat!

The exhibit floor is one of the most popular attractions at Phoenix Comicon. Here, you can pick up copies of some of your favorite pop culture books and comics and find out about authors and artists you haven’t seen. Many of our guests will autograph copies of books and comics right in their booth. On the exhibit floor, you can also find memorabilia from almost every genre, collectible items, costumes, and more! Be sure to schedule plenty of time to visit all of our exhibitors, grab some lunch, and visit with friends

The Nitty-Gritty

Phoenix Comicon is on all three floors of the Phoenix Convention Center North Building, most of the West Building, & in the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Seeing everything requires a lot of walking and it will be hot outside. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle. The Skybridge between the North and West buildings will be open to help you stay out of the heat. Please, no stopping or loitering on the bridge.

Many of our attendees like to stay late for our evening programming, meet up at one of the many downtown hot spots, attend our hosted parties, and start early in the morning. Don’t miss out! Stay downtown where the action is. We will have special hotel rates in our host hotels soon.

Schedules may changeYou’ll find that meeting new friends and getting lost in the sea of awesome that is Phoenix Comicon will mean that your experience simply cannot be anticipated. Go with the flow and leave room for spontaneity.

Expect to have more fun than you ever imagined. Whether it’s bouncing around the Exhibitor Hall for hours, debating who would win in a fight between Darth Vader and Batman, or getting a chance to meet your favorite celebrity, Phoenix Comicon offers opportunities for fun at every turn! Seek out new experiences and explore a wide range of programming and events. This kind of fun only comes once a year!
