"Those Cosplay Nerds” is a consulting group and business made up of 5 people, all credible in different areas of the costuming world. We have hobbyists as well as professionals who specialize in costuming, makeup, photography, and more, our main purpose being to provide tips, tricks, and fun to a creative area with limitless possibilities. We’ll discuss how cosplay comes to life from pictures to clothing or armor as well as discuss ways to individualize your cosplay. One of the main points we will discuss is ways to personalize your cosplay and how to make your creations truly unique with a few simple twists. Researching historical eras, for example, is one process we’ll present in our panel, explaining how historical influence and textures can change a cosplay from simply accurate to a one of a kind, well thought out piece of art. As reference, we’ll have some of the panelist’s own creations on display. These pieces will be known character costumes, but we’ll be able to show how these additions and simple choices of fabrics and detail change them from simply looking identical to looking better than identical. We have an array of sewing tips, pattern tricks, makeup tutorials and even photography ideas to present, all helping in making your character come to life. We want to convey that we are here to not just tell you how to make costumes, but how to become these characters. Courtney Leigh is owner of Courtney Leigh Creations, a business that has been catering to cosplayers around the world since 2010. She has 4 years experience as a makeup artist and costume designer for numerous productions, haunted attractions, fashion shows, etc. and her degree in arts from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising has made pattern making and costuming second nature. She will be providing expertise in costumes, research, materials and various styles of makeup design. Amber and Matt Hunt are well known names in the AZ cosplay community, working as a cosplay duo under the name Firelight Cosplay. Their experience in body painting and creating new ways to create props and armor has given them the experience needed to talk about what to do and what not to do when thinking about materials, brands, and processes to use. We will also be joined by Jessica aka Ricochet Cosplay, an experienced blogger and writer for Confreaks & Geeks and cosplayer for 5 + years as well as Xander D., an avid cosplayer and gamer with a knack for creative photography and character embodiment.
