Marketing

Street Team Event Staff - Phoenix and Tucson

We are looking for Phoenix and Tucson area Street Team staff. As part of Street Team, you go to local events, talk to people to let them know what Comicon is and answer general event questions, and help recruit volunteers. Costumes aren't required for this team, but this is one of the few volunteer roles where costuming isn't just allowed, but encouraged. Info Desk Event Staff

Info Desk Staff works shifts at an Info Desk during Phoenix Comicon to answer attendee questions with accurate information for a total of a minimum of 16 hours over the course of the event. Info Desk staff is expected to:

  • Attend training sessions and meetings to be prepared for the event.
  • Log Lost and Found items and transport to central Lost and Found site.
  • Wear the appropriate and unaltered t-shirt during shift.
  • Attend MANDATORY Wednesday night pre-event meeting at the Phoenix Convention Center for PHXCC only. This is mandatory as it is our last training before the convention starts the next day and all staff need to hear any last minute updates.

Visual Media Photo Booth - Event Staff

This volunteer position in the Marketing Department requires a commitment not only at our Phoenix Comicon event, but participation in the months leading up to our convention as well. Visual Media Photo Booth Event Staff work at our Street Team event photo booths, as well as the free photo booth(s) at Phoenix Comicon, in scheduled shifts. Visual Media Photo Booth Event Staff:

  • Must have a semi-flexible weeknight and weekend schedule in order to be able to volunteer at 2-4 Street Team photo booth events prior to Phoenix Comicon, in addition to volunteering at our convention. (Street Team events typically fall on weekends, but weeknight events will happen on occasion)
  • Must attend 1-2 photo booth clinics in order to become familiar with our photo booth equipment, including settings and usage, as well as proper setup and teardown procedures. Most training opportunities will take place on All Hands meeting days; on-site training at Street Team events will also be provided as needed
  • Are not responsible for processing or uploading Photo Booth images, but knowledge of DSLR or mirrorless camera use is required. Experience with studio lighting equipment and studio and/or portrait photography is a plus
  • Must be personable, professional, and punctual, as well as be a team player

Visual Media Video - Event Staff

Visual Media Video Event Staff are volunteer videographers and video editors in the Marketing Department. Together they create video projects for social media, as well as training resources used by all departments. In addition to being team players, all Visual Media Video Event Staff must be able to independently manage time efficiently in order to complete requested video tasks. Being able to stick to project schedules and adhere to strict deadlines is a requirement. They must also be personable, professional, and punctual.

Videographers will participate with the completion of various marketing and training projects prior to Phoenix Comicon. In addition, at our convention, they will take video of the general event experience, panels & spotlights, parties, and other event activities. In order to execute all tasks, they must:

  • Be able to gather artistic video content, as well as capture standard video footage when needed
  • Own or have access to a DSLR camera or professional video camera capable of full 1080p HD, as well as a personal computer
  • Own or have access to personal video stabilization gear, such as tripods, monopods, gimbals, and steadicams
  • Follow guidelines for gathering footage, as well as properly share and store footage

Editors will also participate with the completion of various marketing and training projects prior to Phoenix Comicon. In addition, at Phoenix Comicon, they will edit shot list footage to create video content to be released during our convention. In order to execute all tasks, they must:

  • Possess basic video editing skills
  • Own a personal computer with access to video editing software (Adobe Premiere preferred)
  • Be able to render and edit footage for pre-con projects, as well as video captured at Phoenix Comicon
  • Follow guidelines for editing footage, as well as properly share and store completed projects

Operations

Logistics Onsite Event Staff and Radio Room Event Staff

Looking for people that are passionate about Comicon and that are business minded, have a strong sense of organization and customer service oriented. Must be able to work a minimum of 16 hours over the course of the convention with hours that range throughout the day into the evening of the four days of the convention. Must be able to lift/carry or push a cart to designated areas. Able to use excel/google sheets for tracking purposes. Staff will be expected to attend Logistics Team meetings and Saturday All Hands meetings.

Line and Access Coordinator

Reports to Line & Access Control Managers. Will manage a team of 6-15 volunteers. Independently and effectively assess situations, and respond accordingly. Effectively manage volunteers and attendees during potentially stressful situations. Responsible for a safe and efficient environment for staff, attendees, guest and vendors. Duties may include: line control, event monitoring, patrolling, line management in various areas, and crowd control. Meet with Coordinators from other departments within Phoenix Comicon to assess their individual needs. Additional duties that may be unforeseen at this time.

Line and Access Event Staff

Reports to Line & Access Control Coordinator. Responsible for a safe and efficient environment for staff, attendees, guests and vendors. Duties may include: line control, event monitoring, patrolling, line management in various areas, 18+ panel management, and crowd control.Must be able to stand/walk for length of your shift. May be required to self manage for short periods.

Software Development Team - Developers and Quality Assurance

The Phoenix Comicon Technology Team is looking for ten good developers and five Quality Assurance specialists to ensure quality software is delivered to all of our customers. The ideal candidate will be as passionate about delivering quality software as they are about the Phoenix Comicon. We need volunteers who can code, test, deploy or manage our website, mobile apps and infrastructure. We are looking for people who have experience with (or want to learn):

  • Coders: iOS, Android, HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap, jQuery, MySQL and even PHP
  • Testers: Testing Automation, Jenkins, Selenium
  • Deploy: AWS, Docker

Author Signing Lounge Coordinator

Reports to Books and Authors Track Coordinator. Lead the team that manages the Author Signing Lounge. Responsible for helping Authors and the bookseller (Mysterious Galaxy) get set up in the Author Signing Lounge and for ensuring a smooth flow of fans purchasing books and having books signed by Author Guests during scheduled signings in the Author Signing Lounge.
