Phoenix New Times Talks Phoenix Comicon

Phoenix New Times Talks Phoenix Comicon

When Phoenix Comicon debuted back in 2002, it officially had one special guest in attendance: renowned indie comic book artist Jim Mahfood.

Suffice it to say, a lot’s changed with the event over the past 15 years, especially the size of its guest list.

At this year’s edition of Phoenix Comicon – which runs from Thursday, May 25, to Sunday, May 28 – more than 160 special guests are scheduled to appear at the famed pop culture event and geek extravaganza. That includes a slew of actors and actresses, several dozen authors and comics creators, and many nerd icons.

UPDATE: Arthur Darvill, Charlie Cox & Michael Rosenbaum

Hi all,

Convention Director Matthew Solberg here. This is the part of the job that is not fun. We regret to announce the following changes to our appearance schedule:

Arthur Darvill is no longer able to attend due to a new filming commitment.

Charlie Cox has accepted a last minute role and begins shooting this week, therefore, he will not be appearing at Phoenix Comicon. He is deeply sorry to all the fans and apologizes for the late notice.

We wish both of them luck and success, cannot wait for The Defenders to release and look forward to seeing both of their new projects.

Michael Rosenbaum is unable to attend on Friday, but will still be here Saturday and Sunday.

If you have purchased a photo op or autograph with Michael Rosenbaum on Friday, please check your account and select an available slot on Saturday or Sunday.

If you have purchased a photo op or autograph with Charlie Cox, Arthur Darvill or the Doctor who group, we have added options to swap your purchase for another of equal value, upgrade to a photo op or autograph of greater value by paying the difference or request a refund by emailing

If you have purchased the Daredevil Trio photo op, please email

I know this is disappointing, as our show is so close. This is part of the risk we take when all of our celebrity guests are working actors and may get cast for roles suddenly and unexpectedly. While it is sad, it makes the reward that much sweeter when actors are able to attend.

While one actor cannot replace another, we do attempt to book additional actors when one cancels, if at all possible. We were thrilled to be able to book and announce Ryan Hurst and Brian Krause shortly after Joan Cusack was unable to attend. While I cannot guarantee we will have any additional announcements, please know we are working to bring additional guests to Phoenix Comicon.
